Odin's Chess is chess played with standing figures in the style of the Lewis chessmen — the twelfth-century Norse set of seated kings, thoughtful queens and warders with sword and shield — on an oak board. Pick up a piece, see every square it can reach, and set it down. Play Classic chess or seven more boards, against the computer, on one screen, with someone in the same room, or online.

Choose the Lewis set or flat sigils, and an oak, iron-bound, engraved cherry or green leather board.

One purchase, every screen

Buy it once and play it on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. On the Apple TV the board stands at an angle, made to be read from across the room, and the Siri Remote moves a piece in two clicks. On the Mac it is a native app with menus and the keyboard. On iPhone and iPad you tap or drag, and in Pass & Play the board can turn to face whoever is to move.

Made for the Apple TV

Odin's Chess is built for the television, not stretched onto it. The board stands at an angle, so the pieces read from across the room, and the Siri Remote moves a piece in two clicks: one to pick it up, one to set it down. Prefer it flat? One switch in Settings. The same purchase plays on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

A real Mac app

Odin's Chess is a native Mac app, with menus, the keyboard and a window you size yourself: click a piece and its square, or move with the arrow keys and Return. The same purchase plays on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, where the board stands at an angle for the room.

One price, nothing else

No ads, no in-app purchases, no tracking and no account. Nothing to unlock and nothing to buy: every board, every set and every rule is in the game you bought. A child can play it unattended, and the only other games it ever mentions are our own.

Learn in words

The Coach marks a good move and says what it does: a check, a capture, the winning move. When a position comes round for the third time, or fifty moves pass without a capture or a pawn move, the game tells you that you may claim a draw. Every board has its How to Play, and the Video Instructions teach on the real board, chapter by chapter — how to use the app, the pieces in brief, check and checkmate, castling, en passant, promotion and the draws — captioned, offline, in 50 languages. Play against four computer strengths, from Easy to Expert, with undo in your own games.
