Squared2 levels
Every finished game earns XP, XP climbs your level, and the level ladder never goes backwards. Here is exactly how it works, straight out of the game.
What a game is worth
A finished game against the computer earns XP based on the strength you played and where you finished at the table. These are the first-place values:
| Opponent strength | A first-place finish earns |
|---|---|
| Easy | 10 XP |
| Medium | 25 XP |
| Hard | 60 XP |
| Expert | 120 XP |
| Online, against a person | 60 XP |
Where you finish at the table
Squared² seats two, three, or four. Placement scales the value evenly from a full share for first down to a quarter share for last, so a four-way table rewards second place more than it rewards third. Tied seats share the better place and earn the same share.
| Finish | 2 seats | 3 seats | 4 seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 100% | 100% | 100% |
| 2nd | 25% | 62% | 75% |
| 3rd | — | 25% | 50% |
| 4th | — | — | 25% |
Pass & Play games earn nothing, by design. A table of people sharing one screen has no single player to credit, so the ladder stays out of it — play those for the argument at the table, not for the level.
The daily ceiling, and a reason to move around
- 600 XP a day is the most games can earn. Past that the level ladder waits for tomorrow — you can keep playing, and everything else still counts.
- +20 XP on the first earning game of the day on each board. Eight boards, so eight of them are available in a day, and the game quietly asks you to try the 12×12 instead of grinding the 4×4.
The level ladder
Each level requires 20% more XP than the one below it. Level 1 starts at zero.
| Level | To reach it, from the level below | Total XP at that level |
|---|---|---|
| Level 2 | 300 XP | 300 XP |
| Level 3 | 360 XP | 660 XP |
| Level 4 | 432 XP | 1,092 XP |
| Level 5 | 518 XP | 1,610 XP |
| Level 10 | 1,290 XP | 6,239 XP |
| Level 15 | 3,210 XP | 17,759 XP |
| Level 20 | 7,987 XP | 46,423 XP |
| Level 25 | 19,874 XP | 117,746 XP |
| Level 30 | 49,453 XP | 295,221 XP |
The two achievements below for reaching levels 5 and 10 are the early rungs; level 30 is the long game.
The bands
Your level carries a title. The names come from the drafting table — the game’s own, not borrowed from anywhere else.
| Levels | Band |
|---|---|
| Levels 1–4 | Doodler |
| Levels 5–9 | Sketcher |
| Levels 10–14 | Inker |
| Levels 15–19 | Drafter |
| Levels 20–24 | Geometer |
| Levels 25–29 | Master Geometer |
| Level 30 and up | Grand Geometer, numbered upward every five levels |
The rules, exactly as the game states them
These are the six lines the rank screen shows inside the app, word for word:
- Games against the computer earn XP win or lose — pass & play is just for bragging rights.
- Harder rivals are worth more — Expert is worth twelve times Easy.
- Place matters at bigger tables — first place is worth four times last.
- Online and nearby games are worth the Hard rate, win or lose.
- Your first game each day on every board earns a bonus.
- Each level needs more XP than the last, and your level never goes down.
6 leaderboards
They are all Game Center leaderboards, so they need you signed in. They update as soon as a game finishes.
